Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced its designation as an official supporter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, through a partnership with FIFA, in a move reflecting the Kingdom’s expanding presence in the global sports industry ahead of hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The partnership includes two PIF-owned companies:

  • Savvy Games Group
  • Qiddiya Investment Company

The Brief

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off on June 11, 2026, and run until July 19, marking the first edition jointly hosted by three countries:
the United States,
Canada,
and Mexico.

The tournament will also be the largest in World Cup history, featuring 48 national teams instead of 32, divided into 12 groups, with matches taking place across 16 host cities in North America.

Saudi Arabia will officially participate in the tournament after successfully qualifying for the finals, as part of a notable Arab and Asian presence in the upcoming edition.

The partnership between FIFA and PIF aims to support initiatives related to football development, youth programs, women’s sports, and infrastructure, while also strengthening the tournament’s global reach.

This move is not merely a sports sponsorship…

It is part of a broader Saudi repositioning within the “global sports economy.”

The Kingdom is no longer limiting itself to hosting major events,
but is increasingly moving into:
investment,
partnerships,
influence,
and shaping the future of sports and entertainment worldwide.

What is particularly notable is the involvement of companies such as Savvy and Qiddiya,
reflecting the growing connection between:
sports,
gaming,
entertainment,
and future cities,
within a vision that goes beyond the traditional concept of a football tournament.

The partnership also comes at a significant moment,
less than a decade before Saudi Arabia hosts the 2034 FIFA World Cup,
sending a message that the Kingdom is not only preparing to organize the event…

but to build a long-term presence in the global sports industry.

At a deeper level,
Saudi Arabia appears to be moving steadily toward a phase of:
“sports soft power,”
where sports evolve from competition on the field alone…
into an integrated economic, cultural, and strategic industry.
