Ministry of Energy announces precautionary shutdown of the pipeline following multiple attacks, while the Foreign Ministry confirms the strikes were carried out by drones launched from Iraq and affirms the Kingdom’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its security and sovereignty

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy announced that the East-West Pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah regions was subjected to multiple attacks on the morning of Thursday, September 10, prompting a precautionary shutdown of the pipeline and resulting in injuries, with medical care provided to those affected.

The ministry said emergency and technical teams began their work immediately after the attacks, taking the necessary measures to secure the pipeline and verify its safety in accordance with approved emergency procedures. It added that any further developments would be announced in due course.

In a subsequent statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in the strongest terms the attack on the East-West Pipeline, confirming that it was carried out by several drones launched from Iraq, causing injuries and some damage that is currently being addressed.

The Foreign Ministry said that, at the request of the Iraqi prime minister, the Kingdom had given the Iraqi government an opportunity to take the necessary measures to prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory against Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries. For this reason, Saudi Arabia chose not to respond at this stage, while supporting the efforts of the Iraqi government.

The Kingdom reaffirmed that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, facilities, citizens, and residents.
