FIFA World Cup 2026 Draw Ceremony… The Results & BETH Analysis
Washington – BETH | Coverage & Analysis
The draw ceremony for the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off on Friday evening (5 December 2025) at the Kennedy Center in Washington, in a grand celebration featuring artistic performances and high-profile attendance. The event included the presentation of FIFA’s new Peace Award to U.S. President Donald Trump, alongside live performances by Andrea Bocelli and the “Village People.”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino opened the ceremony with a speech welcoming President Donald Trump, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Infantino affirmed that the upcoming edition will be “the biggest and most exceptional in the tournament’s history,” saying:
“The 2026 World Cup will be the biggest sporting event humanity has ever witnessed. Three great nations… sixteen host cities… an exciting, unique, and unforgettable summer awaits us.”
Trump Receives FIFA’s Peace Award
The ceremony featured the awarding of the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize to President Donald Trump.
Infantino said during the presentation:
“In an increasingly divided world, we must honor those who work to unite it.”
Trump received the award in recognition of what FIFA described as his “exceptional efforts to promote peace globally.”
The draw took place in Washington D.C. in the presence of the leaders of the three host nations — Canada, Mexico, and the United States — in addition to global football icons, national team captains, coaches, and senior sports officials.
Although 42 teams had already qualified, determining the groups required more than an hour.
Venues and match schedules will be announced during a separate global event on Saturday.
This expanded edition — the largest in World Cup history — will be hosted across three countries for the first time:
🇺🇸 United States – 🇨🇦 Canada – 🇲🇽 Mexico
with 48 teams, 12 groups, and 104 matches played across 16 cities.
This is not just a tournament…
It is a global mega-project blending sports, economics, politics, and culture into one event.
