Friday… Snooker Masters Championship kicks off in Jeddah with 144 global stars

The city of Jeddah is set to host the launch of the Snooker Masters Championship on Friday, August 8, 2025, one of the four major global snooker tournaments. The event will run until August 16 at the Green Hall in Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City, organized by the Saudi Billiards & Snooker Federation, in strategic partnership with Matchroom, in cooperation with the World Snooker Tour (WST), and under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Sports.
🌍 Global Participation – High Stakes
The championship features 144 players from around the world, led by:
Judd Trump (UK) – the defending champion
Zhao Xintong (China) – the reigning world champion
🔹 The total prize pool exceeds £2 million, making it the second highest-paying event on the WST calendar in 2025.
🇸🇦 Strong Saudi and Arab Representation
A total of 16 wildcard entries have been granted, including 10 Saudi players, notably:
Omar Al-Ajlani – eight-time national champion and former World Cup participant (2019)
Abdulraouf Sayigh – competed in last year’s edition
Other Saudi participants include: Ziyad Al-Qabbani, Ahmed Asiri, Ayman Al-Omari, Abdullah Al-Otayani, Musab Sayigh, Fahad Al-Ghamdi, Musaad Al-Musfir, and Saud Al-Bakr.
Additional wildcard entrants include:
Habib Sobh (Bahrain)
Hesham Shaqi (Egypt) – 2025 Arab Champion
Mohammed Al-Jokar (UAE) – 2025 Arab Runner-up
Asif Mukhtar and Adeel Aqdas (Pakistan)
🏆 Highlight from the Previous Edition
In last year’s inaugural edition in Saudi Arabia, Judd Trump secured the title after a thrilling 10–9 comeback victory over Welsh legend Mark Williams, overcoming a 62-point deficit in what was hailed as one of the finest finals in snooker’s major tournament history.
