Infrastructure works at the King Salman International Airport project in Riyadh continue at an accelerated pace, as development progresses on the third runway and private aviation parking areas, alongside the completion of Phase (0) of the private aviation apron and its connection to operational taxiways.

Overview

King Salman International Airport represents one of the flagship strategic projects linked to Saudi Vision 2030. The airport is being developed across an area exceeding 57 square kilometers, positioning it among the world’s largest airports in terms of size and future operational capacity.

The airport is located in northern Riyadh, extending across the area adjacent to the current King Khalid International Airport, approximately 35 kilometers from the city center.

The project aims to increase capacity to approximately:
120 million passengers annually by 2030,
with long-term plans to exceed 185 million passengers annually,
in addition to handling up to 3.5 million tons of air cargo per year.

The project includes:
Six parallel runways,
integrated logistics and commercial zones,
advanced private aviation facilities,
as well as investment, residential, and entertainment districts supporting Riyadh’s transformation into a global hub for transport, services, and business.

The airport is also being developed around sustainability concepts and smart technologies, targeting internationally recognized green building certifications and reduced carbon emissions, in line with Saudi Arabia’s efforts to establish modern infrastructure aligned with global environmental standards.

BETH Analysis

What is happening at King Salman International Airport cannot be viewed as a conventional airport expansion project,
but rather as a redefinition of Riyadh’s role in global movement and connectivity.

The project is not designed merely to receive travelers,
but to build a global hub for:
transport,
tourism,
logistics,
investment,
and intercontinental connectivity.

At a deeper level,
Saudi Arabia appears not to be building just a new airport,
but a “gateway to a new century” reflecting the Kingdom’s broader economic and strategic transformation.

As mega-projects continue to accelerate across Riyadh,
a new model of a global city is gradually taking shape —
one built on:
massive infrastructure,
speed,
operational intelligence,
and the integration of the local economy into the future movement of the world.
