Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy announced the launch of the qualification phase for companies seeking to compete in projects involving the construction, ownership, and operation of compressed natural gas (CNG) distribution systems using transport tankers in the Riyadh and Eastern regions.
The move comes as part of broader efforts to expand natural gas usage and strengthen the Kingdom’s energy infrastructure.
The Brief
The ministry invited interested entities to request qualification documents, setting June 18, 2026, as the deadline for obtaining the qualification package, while July 30, 2026, was announced as the final date for submitting qualification documents.
The ministry stated that the tenders are part of ongoing efforts to develop the natural gas sector, improve service quality, and create a more competitive and investment-friendly environment in this strategic industry.
The projects are also aimed at expanding access to natural gas through tanker-based distribution technologies, helping reduce reliance on liquid fuels and supporting the transition toward natural gas as a more efficient and sustainable energy option, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

This step is not merely a conventional gas distribution project…
It represents part of a broader reshaping of Saudi Arabia’s energy map.
Expanding the use of natural gas means:
lower operating costs,
higher environmental efficiency,
and broader energy options for industrial and commercial sectors.
The tenders also reflect the Kingdom’s continued transition toward a more diversified and flexible energy system, while opening the door for greater private-sector participation in future infrastructure projects.
At a deeper level,
Saudi Arabia appears to be moving steadily toward a phase of “smart energy,”
where development is no longer limited to production alone,
but extends to distribution methods,
efficiency of use,
and reducing waste and emissions.
