Pilgrims began arriving in Mina this morning to observe the Day of Tarwiyah, following the tradition of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, amid deeply spiritual scenes filled with:
Talbiyah,
Takbeer,
and Tasbeeh,
marking the beginning of one of the greatest stages of the Hajj journey.

The Brief

Spending the eighth day of Dhul Hijjah in Mina is considered a confirmed Sunnah for pilgrims before proceeding to Arafat the following day.

Pilgrims remain in Mina until sunrise on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah, before heading to Arafat to perform the most important pillar of Hajj, then later returning to Muzdalifah and Mina during the Days of Tashreeq for the stoning ritual.

Mina is located between Makkah and Muzdalifah, around seven kilometers from the Grand Mosque, and is considered part of the sacred boundary of Makkah. It is inhabited only during the Hajj season.

The holy site carries profound religious and historical significance, having witnessed:
the stoning ritual of Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام,
the Pledges of Aqabah,
the revelation of Surah Al-Mursalat,
in addition to housing Al-Khayf Mosque and Bay’ah Mosque, both linked to pivotal moments in Islamic history.

Operationally,
Saudi Arabia has mobilized extensive:
security,
healthcare,
supply,
and transportation services,
to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and ensure the rituals are performed in an atmosphere of calmness and smooth organization.

B Analysis

Every year,
Mina transforms into far more than:
a collection of pilgrim camps.

It becomes:
a temporary spiritual city,
pulsing with millions of people within a highly sensitive and tightly organized space and timeframe.

What stands out is not only:
the massive crowds,
but the ability to manage this extraordinarily complex human flow with calm efficiency.

Hajj today is no longer solely a spiritual experience.

It has also become:
one of the world’s largest tests of management, operations, and infrastructure.

With pilgrims moving into Mina,
the most intense phase of Hajj effectively begins,
where:
human movement,
services,
safety,
transportation,
and healthcare,
all intersect within a system operating around the clock.

At a deeper level,
the scene transcends numbers and logistics.

In Mina,
one of the world’s most powerful human and spiritual images is recreated every year:
millions of people,
from different languages, races, and cultures,
gathering in one place,
wearing one garment,
for one purpose.
