Conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran
reflect a dual scene between the denial of war… and preparation for it,
as the Strait of Hormuz increasingly becomes a new testing ground for rules of engagement.

The Framework

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he does not support a war with Iran, while at the same time emphasizing that Tehran cannot be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon.

He added in press remarks from the White House:
“I do not support a war with Iran, I don’t like it, and I don’t like wars.”

However, he escalated his rhetoric regarding Iran’s capabilities, claiming that Iran “no longer has a navy, missiles, or even leaders.”

Regarding new rules of engagement, Trump said the U.S. military prefers to destroy Iranian vessels rather than rescue them,
indicating a potential hardening of field-level responses.

Despite this, he noted that “things with Iran are going very well,”
suggesting that negotiations are still ongoing.

In contrast,
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the current situation is “unsustainable” for the United States,
arguing that navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is now threatened due to “U.S. violations of the ceasefire and the imposition of a blockade.”

He added in a post on “X”:
“A new balance of power in the Strait of Hormuz is gradually being established,
and the security of maritime navigation and energy transit is under threat from the United States and its allies.”

He further noted that Iran “has not yet begun taking any action,”
in a message signaling delayed escalation.

The scene does not reflect contradiction,
but rather a distribution of roles:

Washington:
denies war… while escalating in the field

Tehran:
signals escalation… while delaying action

The result:
a calculated balance of tension

Conclusion

What is unfolding is neither de-escalation
nor full escalation,

but a phase in between:

a war of statements
and negotiations under pressure

Insight

When words collide,
actions may be… more aligned than they appear.

Trump Escalates Against Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump downplayed Iran’s military capabilities, stating they have significantly declined, and called on Tehran to “raise the white flag and surrender,” noting that “pride” is preventing it from doing so.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said the Iranian military has weakened to the point of using “pellet guns,” adding that Iran’s leaders maneuver publicly, but are privately seeking an agreement.

The statement combines sharp rhetorical escalation
with an indirect signal toward negotiation:
