Introduction
Jeddah hosts today an extraordinary Gulf consultative summit, at a highly sensitive moment, amid escalating repercussions of the U.S.–Israeli war against Iran, and the direct challenges it imposes on the security and stability of the region.
Overview
The summit aims to strengthen Gulf integration and joint action, and to intensify political and security coordination to contain the repercussions of the current crisis, while emphasizing that any potential solutions must take into account the interests of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, in a way that ensures the protection of their security and stability.
This summit comes amid a critical regional phase, following the military escalation between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, where recent developments have imposed increasing challenges on regional and international security, in addition to testing the effectiveness of international laws and UN Security Council resolutions.
Leaders of the Gulf states have begun arriving in Jeddah, where they were received by Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, ahead of the summit’s expected commencement shortly.
BETH Analysis
The summit is not read as a traditional meeting…
but as a Gulf repositioning at a moment of testing.
1. Unifying the stance
The Gulf realizes that divergence in positions during moments of escalation opens the door to external interventions; therefore, the summit comes to reduce gaps and build a more cohesive position.
2. Managing risks
The goal is not only to react to the crisis, but to manage its potential impacts, particularly regarding energy security, navigation, and internal stability.
3. Asserting the role
The summit represents an attempt to position the Gulf as an active player in shaping solutions, not merely an arena affected by their outcomes.
At a moment when events are accelerating…
the Gulf is moving to reorganize its internal front.
The Jeddah summit is not merely a reaction…
but a step toward taking control of the initiative amid ongoing developments.
