The first Saudi women's football team opens its international matches
Today, Sunday, the first Saudi women's football team will officially open its international matches, when it faces its counterpart Seychelles at 7:00 pm Mecca time at the National Stadium in the Maldivian capital "Male". This match is part of the preparatory team program in preparation for entering the official competitions. Under the umbrella of the Asian and International Football Associations, the "Green" program will also include another friendly match against the Maldives next Thursday at the same stadium.
The Saudi team had opened its program with a preparatory camp on the fourteenth of last January in Jeddah, before moving on the twenty-seventh of the same month to the second phase, which included a camp in Riyadh, and then leaving for the Maldives the day before yesterday for the third and final phase of the program. The first in the team's history.
The "Green" list witnesses the presence of twenty-five players, who were chosen by German coach Monica Stubb, who stressed the importance of this historic match, saying: "We are facing a historic moment for Saudi women's football, and I would like to ask the players to enjoy this match, and to be Proud to be on this list, and to have the opportunity to live this experience, which is only the beginning of what is to come.”
Monica added, "The players have to give everything they have in these two matches, and seize this opportunity to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia well. They are very lucky to have this opportunity."
For her part, Member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Football Association and Director of the Women’s Football Department, Lamia Bin Bahian, confirmed that this match is a culmination of the efforts made in Saudi women’s football, noting that the first match is a historic event, which the Federation has worked on since the first day to form the Football Administration Women in 2019, and here we are today transforming the dream into reality thanks to the great support that sports and football in particular, from the rational leadership and constant and continuous follow-up from His Highness the Minister of Sports and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Football Association.
Bin Bahyan added: “This is the beginning, and we have a long way to go until we reach the goal that we seek to achieve with the national team, which is to reach the farthest point from the international and regional championships in the upcoming participations. , until reaching the last list of 25 players.
