Title: Criticism Does Not Exclude… It Refines

In an age where honest observation is often mistaken for hostility, criticism has become a misunderstood art. Today, we must redefine it not merely as an expressive style or elitist talent, but as a discipline of thought that distinguishes between those who seek self-satisfaction and those who pursue self-improvement.

Criticism: A Method, Not a Mood

There are two kinds of minds when it comes to criticism:

One sees it as a path to growth, valuing those who highlight the flaws rather than those who merely applaud.

The other sees it as an offense—even a threat. And if such a mind holds power, it might retaliate.

But true criticism is never meant to destroy; it is meant to awaken.

A Personal Glimpse

In over four decades of journalism, I've never wielded criticism as a weapon, but rather as a mirror. I have criticized individuals who later thanked me, knowing the intent was to extract the brilliance I saw hidden inside them.

Yet not all react alike.

One man, whose actions were publicly flawed, still bears resentment. Another blocked me on X simply for a short, constructive comment.

These are people who do not see truth; they only see their own reflections.

Ramadan Media: Between Enlightenment and Emptiness

This Ramadan, the screens overflowed with content. Some enriched minds. Some insulted them.

At BETH, we did what we do best: responsible critique. And the public’s response was intelligent and encouraging.

Let’s take an example: "Elon Musk Masr"

A show that once had novelty has now outlived its creativity. What began as satire has devolved into mockery.

Mockery of intellect. Mockery of cultural identity. Mockery—under the false label of "entertainment."

Popularity Isn't Quality

Some argue: "But it has high viewership!"

Yes, so do many of the most shallow and morally questionable posts on social media.

Impact, not numbers, is the real metric.

So I ask:

Has this program inspired thought? Has it elevated taste?

If not, it has failed, regardless of how many tuned in.

The Crisis of Content Creation

Many in the media still believe their role is to descend to the public’s level—and stay there. But the real task is to lift the audience up.

Unfortunately, today’s viewer is no different from the viewer 20 years ago. We have not nurtured a new media taste. We’ve simply recycled the same consciousness in new packaging.

Bottom Line:

Criticism is not an insult. It is the honor of reason.

To err is human. But to repeat errors or defend mediocrity is to create harm, not content.

If you reject all criticism, perhaps you're not chasing excellence—you're avoiding it.
