Saudi Arabia inaugurates the world's largest floating water desalination plant

Saudi Arabia inaugurated work on the first floating water desalination plant near Al Shuqaiq port on the western coast of Saudi Arabia. It is considered the largest floating water desalination plant in the world, as part of a package of water projects for the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, aimed at ensuring supply security and enhancing water security in all regions of Saudi Arabia.


The new project, which was recently inaugurated by Prince Muhammad bin Nasser, Governor of Jazan Region, in the presence of Eng. Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and Abdullah Al-Abdul Karim, Governor of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, comes within the framework of cooperation between the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), an industry giant Desalination in the world, and Bahri Company, the world leader in the field of logistics and transportation, whereby, in accordance with this cooperation, floating water desalination plants will be developed for the Corporation, under the supervision of its technical team of fully national cadres, and the design has taken into account that the barges are transported according to the needs of the regions At the level of Saudi Arabia, these plants will contribute to ensuring the continuity of the abundance of desalinated water at high levels, and by adopting the best local and international standards and regulations applied, as the plant has a production capacity of 50,000 cubic meters of water per day.

It will support the "Desalination" and "Bahri" project, which is based on the construction of floating desalination plants, three of which (Desalination) owns a total production volume of 150,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day, safe, independent and reliable to support the security and preservation of marine life. It will support the promotion of innovation. And localizing the latest technologies, enabling local content, providing job opportunities for young people, in addition to stimulating the capabilities of the industrial sector in the Kingdom and maximizing its contribution to the total added value and making it more active and competitive. economical development.

For his part, Engineer Abdullah Al-Abdulkarim, Governor of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, said: “We are working according to the unlimited support of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince, to advance the most important factors of sustainable development by providing desalinated water, and we are happy to achieve this achievement within the national water strategy, and under constant follow-up.
