Saudi-British talks... and Gulf-British talks

LONDON - His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today, Monday, with British Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Elizabeth Truss, on the sidelines of the Gulf-British ministerial meeting held in the British capital, London.

The two sides held a session of official talks, during which they reviewed aspects of the solid and historical partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, and ways to strengthen and develop it in all areas of cooperation, in addition to discussing the outcomes of the Gulf-British ministerial meeting, and the most prominent regional and international issues of common interest.

During the talks, the two sides touched on the results of the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, which the Kingdom called for in order to help the brotherly Afghan people. which it is going through.

They also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two friendly countries in areas of mutual benefits and common interests, and to raise the level of coordination and existing consultation, whether at the bilateral or multilateral level, on all issues of concern to both sides in the region and the world.

The session of talks was attended by the British side, the British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly, and from the Saudi side, the Director General of the Office of His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Rahman Al-Daoud, and the Deputy Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hasan Al-Jami.

The foreign ministers of the United Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council have agreed to strengthen security and economic relations, paving the way for an era of closer cooperation between them in areas including trade, cybersecurity and investment in green infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries.

This came when the British Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Elizabeth Truss received, today at Chevening House, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, and His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman. Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs in the State of Kuwait, H.E. Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, and delegate Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh.

During the meeting, Ministers agreed to work together to promote clean and reliable infrastructure financing in developing countries. They also welcomed the relaunched UK International Investment Authority, which will increase investments in infrastructure, technology and clean energy projects across Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.

They welcomed the plan to increase trade between the UK and the GCC, which is worth more than £30 billion annually, as the UK and GCC countries work towards a new free trade agreement, and negotiations are expected to start next year.
