The biggest robbery of an Israeli military base
Israeli media revealed the circumstances of what was described as the largest theft of an Israeli military base, during which more than 100,000 bullets were looted.
The Israeli News 13 website reported that a theft took place a month and a half ago, targeting more than 100,000 bullets from a warehouse of M-16 rifles inside a military base belonging to the Alexandroni Brigade, in the Galilee in the north of the country.
And he was quoted as saying that "this ammunition has undoubtedly found its way to elements working in organized crime, not to mention its spread in the villages and cities of northern Israel."
For its part, the Israeli police estimated that "the total theft exceeds 150,000 bullets, while the army estimates that it is less than that. However, the Israeli army considers that the matter undermines the army's preparedness in time of emergency."
The website of the "i24news" TV channel quoted a report that "Officers who inspected the base reported a shortage of ammunition and a lack of readiness to respond in the hour of emergency. It was also reported that the perpetrators had not yet been arrested, while the investigation is still ongoing."
