RIYADH - The Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) held its 107th meeting today, Thursday, via video communication technology, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy.
The Council approved the approval of the minutes of the 106th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Organization, which was held at the delegates’ level via video communication technology, on 5/22/2021 AD, and the adoption of the organization’s estimated budget draft (General Secretariat and Judicial Authority) for the year 2022. View the report of the General Secretariat on The progress of work in the plan to develop and activate the organization’s activity, and in this regard, the Council expressed its appreciation for the tireless efforts made by the General Secretariat in the framework of implementing the plan to activate and develop the activity of the organization, calling for the continuity of the efforts of the General Secretariat in this aspect, and reviewed the fiftieth annual report that reviewed the activity of the organization. The Arab companies emanating from the organization during the year 2020, and the first half of 2021, and I took note of the results of the fiftieth annual coordination meeting of these companies, which was held on 23-24/10/2021, in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, in which the continuation of coordination and cooperation came Among these companies in the areas related to their activities, the Council also reviewed a report on the efforts made to activate the relationship between the organization and the Arab emerging companies, and the results achieved according to the action plan. approved by the joint working group between the General Secretariat and the Arab emerging companies, including the unified meetings between the two sides, the challenges facing the companies’ work and ways to overcome them, and the results achieved within the work plan approved by the joint working group.
The Council appreciated the efforts made by the Secretariat towards activating the relationship with the Arab companies emanating from the organization, calling for the continuation of these efforts in a way that enables these companies to achieve the purpose for which they were established.
The Executive Office of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) has been assigned to coordinate with the Kingdom to work with the member states of the organization to contribute to activating the "Green Middle East" initiative launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister Secretary of Defense, in addition to working with Member States; To adopt the implementation of the concept of a circular carbon economy as an approach that contributes to addressing carbon emissions in an economically sustainable manner, and to include it in the national contributions of each country, in line with the conditions and priorities of member states, and to approve the State of Qatar’s hosting of the 12th Arab Energy Conference, during the last quarter of 2023.
The Council reviewed the report of the Secretary-General on the activities of the General Secretariat in the following areas: the studies carried out by the General Secretariat during 2021, in which 9 technical and economic studies on oil and energy were completed, and the report of the General Secretariat of the Organization on the follow-up to the "global petroleum situation", and the follow-up to environmental affairs and change Climate, the most important of which are the outcomes of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) (COP26) held in Glasgow - United Kingdom, the workflow of the data bank and the development of its activities, and the events organized by the Secretariat During the second half of 2021, he was also briefed on the results of the arbitration of the OAPEC Scientific Prize for the year 2020 in the field of “Environmental Research Related to Petroleum and Energy” and announced the winners, where he won the first prize of 7000 Kuwaiti dinars with three participating researches, as follows: (Al-Jumhuriya People's Democratic Republic of Algeria), (People's Democratic Republic of Algeria), (Arab Republic of Egypt).
The second prize, amounting to 5000 Kuwaiti dinars, was won by three participating researches, as follows: (People's Democratic Republic of Algeria) (State of Kuwait).
The Syrian Arab Republic will assume the presidency of the next session of the Council of Ministers and the Executive Office of the organization, for a period of one year, starting from January 2022.
It was agreed to hold the next meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Organization in the State of Kuwait during the month of December 2022.
