As commissioned by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; An Egyptian interest in developing the city of Saint Catherine and placing it in its proper position and maximizing the benefit from the tourism components of this city, which has an archaeological, religious and environmental character. Archaeological Catherine, which is one of the oldest monasteries in the world, and the city is a meeting place for the three monotheistic religions. It is located in the heart of a nature reserve and with the combination of all these components in the city of St. Catherine, which makes it a unique area in the world.
The cost of the first phase of the Saint Catherine development project (the Greatest Transfiguration Project over the Land of Peace) amounted to 4 billion pounds, and it is scheduled to open next April. The project is characterized by harmony with the surrounding environment and the involvement of the local community in the development process in order to achieve sustainable development. The development also includes raising the efficiency Urbanism based in St. Catherine.
Among the works being implemented in the Saint Catherine development project is the establishment of a spiritual shrine on the mountains surrounding the Holy Valley to be a destination for spiritual, mountain, medical and environmental tourism worldwide, as well as 580 housing and tourist units, a mosque, a church, a school and a commercial market being implemented in the Zaytuna area.
There are also many projects being implemented to develop the city of St. Catherine, including the construction of the new eco-lodge “Extension” in the Wadi Al Raha area (216) rooms, in addition to the establishment of the desert garden along the foot of the mountain, linking the new eco-lodge to the mountain hotel and a walkway that simulates the historical path of Mr. Musa through Wadi Al Raha all the way to The Transfiguration Mountain, as well as the development of the existing eco-lodge, the development of Sadat’s rest area, and the construction of the Peace Square, which includes (a yard for external celebrations - a building for a variety of museum displays - a theater and conference hall - a cafeteria - meeting rooms).
As well as the ongoing projects, the construction of an integrated 150-room mountain hotel, the construction of the new visitor center at the entrance to Saint Catherine city, the site of the Holy Valley Square, the establishment of the new administrative complex, the development of the tourist area (construction of the mountain tourism investment resort - and a commercial area (bazaars) - and the construction of the private social building in the youth center) and the development of the heritage town center (developing the existing mosque, developing the existing shops, adding new ones, and transforming the area into a heritage tourist area for pedestrians only that suits the character of the city).
In addition, the development projects include the Bedouin homes area, including site coordination, the establishment of two service centers, the development of the Wadi Al-Deir area, and the establishment of the new residential area, where housing units and services will be added to accommodate the expected housing density of the city after development, in addition to carrying out site coordination works in the main pedestrian path in Wadi Al-Arbaeen from Visitors’ center to the city center, road network works for automated movement, development and upgrading of infrastructure and facilities, and flood prevention work, and treatment of flood drains whose paths have been taken into account in the design of the city’s general plan so that it becomes a positive element within the network of paths to coordinate the site in the city.
