The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set tentative dates for the draw for the qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup, on the sidelines of the General Assembly held today, Friday, in Cairo.

The draw for the decisive play-off will take place in January 2022, during the African Nations Cup matches in Cameroon, where January 22 and 26 were tentatively set as the date for the draw.

The decisive round matches for the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup were scheduled to take place, from two home and away matches in March 2022, but it was rescheduled to take place in June 2022, due to the disruption caused by the “Covid-19” epidemic to the qualifiers schedule.

Ten teams qualified for the decisive round of the African qualifiers, including four Arab countries: Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Ghana, Senegal and Republic of the Congo.

The current system for the decisive round of the African qualifiers for the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar in the winter of 2022, requires the distribution of the ten teams qualified for the final stage into two levels, according to the monthly classification of teams issued by the International Football Association "FIFA".

Accordingly, the first-level teams will face their second-level counterparts in two home and away matches, with the "decisive" return match being held at the team's stadium that belongs to the first level, in order to determine the five African seats in the World Cup finals in Qatar.

The first level included teams: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria and Senegal.

While the teams entered the second level: Mali, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana and Egypt.
