Launching the first women's football league in Saudi Arabia
It will start on November 22 in two phases with the participation of 16 teams
RIYADH - The Saudi Football Association announced today the launch of the first edition of the Saudi Women's Football League, in a step that comes within the time plan set by the federation within the framework of the women's football support program since 2017.
The league, which will start on November 22, will be held in two phases through the Regions League in its first phase, with the participation of 16 teams, and its matches will be held in 3 cities (Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam) with 6 teams from each region “except for Dammam, four teams” to play in the league system. From two rounds, the top three places in Riyadh and Jeddah and the first and second places in Dammam will qualify for the Kingdom Final Championship to be held early next year in Jeddah at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, and it will be held in a one-match knockout system.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Federation, Yasser Al-Mishal, indicated that this announcement is an important moment in the march of the Federation, pointing out that the launch of the first official league in the Kingdom was one of the Federation’s goals when launching a special department for women’s football.
Al-Mishal explained that all the rules and regulations for the league have been completed, stressing the federation's keenness to implement them and abide by them due to the importance of this edition in the path of Saudi women's football, wishing success to all participating teams in the tournament.
It is worth noting that the 16 participating clubs from the three regions are: Al-Tahadi, Sama, Al-Himma, Al-Sham Al-Zarqa, Al-Yamama (Al-Wusta), Al-Asifah, Jeddah Eagles, Union Al-Quwa, Flaming Ball, Al-Leith Al-Abyad (Western), Al-Sharqiah, Al-Mamlaka Al-Nisa’, and Al-Waha. and Union of Eagles (Eastern).
