The US Navy named a US gay tanker, the Harvey Milk, as the ceremony was held in San Diego, California, on Saturday.
Mayor Todd Gloria said on Twitter: "I am honored to be with Secretary of the Navy Carlos del Toro, and several state, federal and local officials to name the ship 'USNS Harvey Milk'.
