Saudi Arabia calls on the international community to strengthen cooperation against international terrorism
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called on all countries to firmly strengthen international cooperation against international cross-border terrorism and to take urgent and effective measures to eradicate this scourge.
This came in the speech of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the meeting to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1373 (2001) and the establishment of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, which was held today in the second session of the Council’s meetings entitled “International Cooperation, and it includes the relationship between important international and regional bodies with relevant bodies The United Nations, highlighting the steps taken and required to facilitate and build the capacity of member states in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism,” which was delivered by the Deputy Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Counselor Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Ateeq.
At the beginning of the speech, Al-Ateeq stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is cooperating closely in combating terrorism and its financing and combating violent extremism with countries, international and regional organizations, and with United Nations bodies.
He explained that the Kingdom has formed, since 2002, a permanent national committee concerned with implementing and following up Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism and its financing, and coordinating national policies with the aim of rapid and effective implementation of Security Council resolutions, including Resolution (1373) and subsequent related resolutions.
He pointed out that the Executive Directorate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee had visited the Kingdom several times, the last of which was in November 2018, and the first visits were in 2008, and among the program was a visit to the Saudi-Yemeni border, which was and still poses a real danger.
Al-Ateeq pointed out that the Directorate praised the Kingdom’s progress in combating terrorism and its financing in several aspects, and the Kingdom’s ability and excellence to provide technical assistance in these aspects, and work and coordination exist in this regard with the competent authorities of the United Nations, as well as with countries, bodies and organizations according to several joint initiatives and projects that Kingdom with its support and funding.
He stated that among these initiatives are the Kingdom's contribution to the initiative to establish the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT) and support it with 110 million dollars, chairing its advisory board, and supporting the center's pursuit of excellence as one of the most successful houses of expertise in supporting capacity building of member states in their measures to implement the United Nations global strategy. to combat terrorism.
The old deputy permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations indicated that the Kingdom pledged to support the United Nations Office for the Alliance of Civilizations with an amount of three million dollars, based on the Kingdom's strong belief in the important role of the United Nations in perpetuating a culture of peace and tolerance as the best way to confront terrorism and the accompanying messages of hate and violence.
He said: The Kingdom shares the necessary assessments and information on terrorism and its development, and emerging risks, with many countries and organizations, through bilateral, regional or international meetings, and the Kingdom's belief that the most important rules and mechanisms for combating and combating terrorism are based on information cooperation, so the Kingdom has shared all the names of the Saudis. Terrorists participating abroad, including their biometric data and information, are with countries, in order to ensure the security of the entire world, calling on countries to follow the Kingdom's example.
At the end of the speech, Al-Ateeq explained that the Kingdom has been the founder and host of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center since 2017, a founding member of the Global Coalition to Combat ISIS, and chairs the Coalition’s Action Group to Combat ISIS (CIFG), as well as a founding member of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum. GCTF), and the Islamic Military Coalition to Combat Terrorism "IMCTC", with the aim of the Kingdom's contribution to international efforts.
