Khartoum closed and isolated from other Sudanese cities
Khartoum -Exclusive: The Sudanese authorities closed all bridges and crossings leading to the city of Khartoum, the third side of the Sudanese triangle capital, and completely isolated it from the cities of Khartoum North and Omdurman, on the anniversary of the October 21, 1964 revolution today.
Security forces imposed a tight security around the perimeter of the presidential palace, the cabinet head quarter, ministries, government institutions, the general command of the armed forces and all roads leading to the commercial area and banks. The vibrant heart of Khartoum appeared devoid of any signs of life except for the security forces, army and police vehicles.
The closure continues from midnight yesterday until today evening.
Ayman Khaled, the governor of Khartoum, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the isolation decision comes to prevent the supporters of the defunct era from exploiting the popular celebrations of this important national occasion, and to cover up behind the processions and marches of the celebrants to cause chaos in the hope of the return of the defunct regime.
