France considers withdrawing from NATO
The New York Times said that against the backdrop of the new security partnership (OCOS) between Australia, the states and Britain, Paris is considering "withdrawing from the military leadership" of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The American newspaper stated that French President Emmanuel Macron chose to escalate in response to the secret steps between the United States and the United Kingdom to sell nuclear-powered submarines to Australia, which in turn canceled the deal of regular submarines that it was seeking to import from France, especially since this step came only six months before French presidential elections.
She pointed out that one of the ideas revolving around is France's withdrawal from the integrated military command structure of NATO, which it rejoined in 2009 after an absence of 43 years, considering that despite Macron's statements in 2019 that NATO is "clinically dead," The idea of France withdrawing from the alliance would be a "radical" move.
And she considered that "France is offended and will not easily forget what it sees as an American slap in the face."
