Americans should learn Chinese, Russian, Arabic and Persian languages.
Washington:This article was written by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, in which he believes that American diplomats should learn critical languages such as Chinese, Arabic and Persian, as mastering them is a vital necessity for American national security. “Decades after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the United States created the "National Linguistic Security Initiative," which enhanced students' fluency in Arabic, Persian, foreign language is critical to understanding other states' intentions - a critical factor in determining the appropriate mix of cooperation, containment,and deterrence that enables the United States to advance its interests abroad.
“As the Trump administration adjusts the foreign policy of the United States to meet the challenges posed by the expansionist ambitions of the Chinese Communist Party and Iranian-backed terrorism, we must follow the far-sighted example set by our predecessors. It is for this reason that I directed the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs to intensify the study of critical languages, starting with Mandarin, in addition to other important languages such as Russian, Hindi,Arabic and Persian.
