Saudi Arabia welcomes the disclosure of secret documents related to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The Kingdom affirms its continuous support for the complete lifting of confidentiality of any documents and materials to end completely baseless allegations about the Kingdom.
Washington - The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States of America issued a statement, the text of which follows:
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States welcomes the disclosure of confidential documents relating to the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.
The leadership of Saudi Arabia has called for continuous disclosure of all materials related to the attacks over the past 20 years. The kingdom has always demanded transparency regarding the tragedy of 9/11. As revealed by previous investigations, including the 9/11 Commission and the publication of the so-called “28 pages”, no evidence has ever emerged to suggest that the Kingdom’s government or any of its officials had prior knowledge of the terrorist attacks or were in any way involved. in its planning or implementation.
Any claim that Saudi Arabia was complicit in the 9/11 attacks is false and unfounded. As the administrations of the four previous US presidents have emphasized, Saudi Arabia has condemned and denounced the heinous crimes committed against its ally and partner, the United States.
Saudi Arabia is well aware of the reality of the threats posed by Al-Qaeda through its terrorist ideology and actions. The kingdom, along with the United States, was the main target of al-Qaeda, even before the 9/11 attacks. The Kingdom, along with the United States, has spared no effort in confronting terrorism and extremism in all its forms.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is proud of its record in combating terrorism, including its efforts to thwart the financing of terrorism, its comprehensive strategy to combat extremist ideology, and to weaken and defeat terrorist organizations throughout our region.
The Kingdom is a major partner of the United States in the fight against terrorism. Together, our two countries have faced ISIS in Iraq and Syria, and, among other successes, have inflicted significant losses on al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and ISIS in Yemen. There is no doubt that the coordinated action between the Kingdom and the United States to confront and confront terrorist plots over the past twenty years has saved the lives of thousands of Saudis and Americans.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as one of the countries targeted by global terrorism, understands the pain and suffering of the families who lost their loved ones on that unforgettable day.
Previous declassification of 9/11-related material, such as the “28 pages,” confirmed the 9/11 Commission’s finding that Saudi Arabia had nothing to do with this crime. It is unfortunate that such false allegations persist. In turn, Saudi Arabia can only reiterate its continued support for the complete declassification of any documents and materials related to the US investigation into terrorist attacks, in the hope that full disclosure of these documents will lead to the definitive end of baseless allegations about the Kingdom. .
