Saudi Aramco develops the Jafurah field
One of the largest non-associated non-conventional gas fields in the world.. The field makes the Kingdom third in the world in gas production in 2030..
Broadcast: Saudi Aramco intends to resume the development of the Jafurah field, which is one of the largest non-associated non-conventional gas fields in the world.
The Saudi Ministry of Energy said that the giant Al-Jafurah field will make the kingdom third in the world in gas production by 2030.
Aramco obtained approval to develop the giant Al-Jafurah field in the Eastern Province, inaugurating the Saudi era of gas as a global player.
The Supreme Committee for Hydrocarbons, headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was briefed on the plans to develop the Jafurah field, which is the largest non-associated non-conventional gas field discovered in the Kingdom, with a length of 170 km and a width of 100 km.
The volume of gas resources in the Jafurah field is estimated at 200 trillion cubic feet of wet gas, which contains gas liquids in the petrochemical and high-value condensate industries.
The field development investments amount to 110 billion dollars (412 billion riyals), and the stages of its development will gradually increase the field's production of gas, to reach, if its development is completed, to 2.2 trillion cubic feet in 2036, representing about 25% of the current production.
Because of the field's characteristics, it will be able to produce about 130 thousand barrels per day of ethane, representing about 40% of the current production, and about 500 thousand barrels per day of gas liquids and condensates needed for the petrochemical industries, representing about 34% of the current production.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman directed that the priority of allocating the field's production of gas and its liquids to the local sectors in industry, electricity, water desalination, mining and others to keep pace with the ambitious growth rates in accordance with Vision 2030.
The Crown Prince indicated that the development of the field will achieve, over 22 years from the beginning of its development, a net income for the government of about 8.6 billion dollars annually (32 billion riyals).
The development of the field will supplement Saudi Arabia's gross domestic product by an estimated $20 billion (75 billion riyals) annually.
The development of the huge field will also lead to providing direct and indirect job opportunities for citizens in various sectors.
The Jafurah field will make the Kingdom one of the most important gas producers in the world, adding to its position as the most important oil producer.
The development of the field, in addition to the Kingdom's programs in developing renewable energies, will lead to achieving the best mix of energy consumption locally and support its record in environmental protection and sustainability.
