When beauty and architecture meet, you are in the old city of Tbilisi, with one of the wonderful buildings, It’s the turquoise House with amazing beautiful carved balconies is located at Rustaveli Avenue No. 54, behind the Georgian National Academy of Sciences building.

House of Prince Vasil was constructed in 1897. It used to belong to the famous lawyer and economist Vasil Gabashvili. The house was designed by architect Korneli     Tatishchev who was also the architect of the famous Rustaveli State Theatre.

Its facade is the synthesis of baroque and rococo styles. This building is distinguished by its carved wooden lace façade, exquisite balcony painted entrance and a beautiful garden with round fountain. One will hardly find similar carved façade and balcony in Tbilisi.

“ before renovating the house was studied well. The curving details were said to be covered with eight layers of paint. All the carves were restored by hand.” said

 Davit Sulakauri

David Sulakauri is a Georgian artist and painter and husband of Nino, who is the daughter of Nikoloz Kipshidze and Daro Gabashvili.

David talks about the owners of the house. They decided to start restoration of the old house upon their return from America. By that time

“  the house already belonged to the Gabashvili-Kipshidze family. Over the years, the family bought rooms from tenants. House restoration” he said, took a full nine years.

“From the very beginning, we studied what color the balcony was painted,” says David.

We invited a famous restorer who discovered which of these colors was natural, that is, the first. Modern technology allows you to "calculate" the original color of a particular detail from a black and white photograph. Moreover, all these complex patterns Restorers recreated manually on a tree, as in the days of Tatishchev. Stamped figures would not have looked so exquisite. "

“We wanted to make a quality restoration. Therefore, we needed to know the composition of the paint and the type of wood from which such a carving was made. It turned out that there were only eight layers of paint on this balcony

“The roof required a major overhaul for a long time. The tragedy that happened on June 1, 1990 caused especially damage to the building.. The wreckage of the cable cars fell on the roof of the house. "
