In a media interview broadcast today, Sunday, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the incident of the British destroyer, which occurred last week in the Black Sea off the coast of the Crimea, as a deliberate and seriously planned provocation aimed at discovering weaknesses in the response and border control systems of the Russian state. .
Peskov hinted at the involvement of the United States in the incident, saying: "I believe that our intelligence, of course, knows who adopted this decision, but plans are made on the content of such operations, I believe, at the hands of senior colleagues beyond the ocean."
Commenting on the possibility of a recurrence of such incidents, the spokesman added, "I am not a proponent of discussing such scenarios, but it is clear that Russia's response will of course be firm."
Peskov recalled recent statements on the matter by Russian President Vladimir Putin, to the effect that an American strategic reconnaissance plane was flying in the airspace of the region at the moment of the accident, with the aim of revealing how the Russian forces responded to it, and that the Russian side allowed it to monitor "information that it considered appropriate."
