Saudi Arabia confirms its support for the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency and calls on Iran for immediate and transparent cooperation

His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah bin Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Austria, Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna and Governor of the Kingdom to the International Atomic Energy Agency, participated in the June session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

At the beginning of the Kingdom’s speech, His Highness referred to the reports of the Director-General of the Agency, which included a series of violations by Iran of the safeguards agreement concluded under the Non-Proliferation Treaty with Iran (CSA) and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), stressing that the reports show the lack of transparency of the Iranian side in dealing with the Agency’s demands. relating to four sites in Iran containing undeclared nuclear activities and materials, for nearly two years; Iran continued to provide unsatisfactory and technically unreliable responses regarding the presence of multiple human-origin and isotope-modified uranium particles, as well as Iran's inability to respond to the Agency's questions about the possibility of natural uranium in the form of a metal disc, which reflects its lack of seriousness in cooperating with the Agency. Although the Director-General expressed concern about the lack of progress on the outstanding safeguards issues, the Agency's readiness to engage Iran in proactive efforts to clarify and resolve these issues without further delay.

His Highness added that after the agency verified two sites that Iran had previously refused to allow the inspectors to enter, and the results of the samples taken from them showed the presence of natural uranium particles of human origin, and the possibility of using and storing nuclear materials at a site where an external test of conventional explosives was conducted, which reflects Iran's motives for That refrain, despite the fact that they were subjected to a process of purification and destruction in an attempt to get rid of any traces of those nuclear materials.

His Highness concluded the Kingdom’s statement by referring to the repeated Iranian violations, especially in light of its suspension of the additional protocol, and its quest to evade the implementation of the amended code (3.1) of the subsidiary arrangements attached to the safeguards agreement concluded with it, and the continuation of its policy based on misinformation. And the need for Iran to avoid further escalation and not expose the security and stability of the region to more tension, and to respond to the Agency’s demands and inquiries in accordance with Iran’s commitments regarding the credible and immediate implementation of its comprehensive guarantees, in addition to engaging seriously in the current negotiations within the framework of the comprehensive plan of action. The Joint Commission (JCPOA), and a return from its escalations related to enrichment of uranium by 60%, the installation of advanced centrifuges, and its production of highly enriched uranium metal, in line with the aspirations of the international community towards Iran harnessing its nuclear program for peaceful purposes and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and in a manner that achieves security stability and limit the spread of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East and the world at large.
