First Arab-Indian Energy Forum kicks off

Today, Tuesday, 27 Shawwal 1442 AH corresponding to June 08, 2021 AD, the activities of the first Arab-Indian Forum in the field of energy began, through visual communication technology, jointly organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the Ministry of Energy, Minerals, Water and Environment in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The head of the Arab side at the forum, Moroccan Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment Aziz Rabah, said that the growth rates of Arab demand for electric power during the past years ranged between 5 and 10% annually, and this upward pace is expected to continue, pointing to the Arab countries' dependence on fossil fuels for electricity production by About 94%.

He added that there are Arab contributions in the field of renewable energy, but they are modest, amounting to about 6%, and most of it is from hydroelectric energy, compared to more than 20% as a global average.

For his part, the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Kamal Hassan, explained that the main objective of the forum is to exchange experiences in the field of energy, expressing his hope to develop an Arab orientation towards India based on increasing Arab exports of oil and hydrocarbon products, and attracting Indian investments in the oil field. liquefied natural gas and renewable energy.

He pointed out that the vision of the Arab League on energy is based on three axes, namely maintaining the strategic position of the Arab region in the global energy markets, strengthening the Arab orientation at all levels towards integration, including efforts to establish a common Arab market for electricity, and the transition to gradual dependence on energy sources. renewable energy, and encourage the private sector to invest in this field.
