Abdullah bin Saeed, at the Hotel Kempinski Al Othman in Al Khobar.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the Mayor of the Eastern Region welcomed His Excellency the Mayor of Jeddah Governorate, and the attendees, stressing that the secretariat is hosting this meeting within the framework of continuing the efforts of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing; To raise the quality of life and to achieve the most important goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, through which a sustainable work vision has been developed to eliminate the manifestations of visual distortion and improve the urban landscape.

His Excellency also affirmed the Secretariat’s keenness to contribute to solving the challenges it faces in this file; In view of its importance and its reflection on the municipal work system and its development, with an emphasis on transferring the successful experiences and experiences that were adopted in the Municipality of the Eastern Province and the Municipality of Jeddah to the rest of the Secretariats.

His Excellency the Mayor of Jeddah, Mr. Saleh Al-Turki, gave his speech in which he stressed that improving the visual landscape is one of the pillars that aim to enhance the visual attractiveness of cities, most notably setting controls for urban design, imposing a set of rules and regulations to activate those controls, as well as working to modify the culture and behavior of citizens and residents. and operational work in line with improving the general urban landscape, stressing that our rational government has placed the file of addressing visual distortion in cities at the top of the municipal work system’s priorities; In an effort to achieve tangible results that reflect a decent image of the Kingdom and its people, and to enhance awareness and civilized behavior of the importance of preserving the environment and protecting public facilities, to achieve permanent development, and to achieve the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in promoting comprehensive development in the Kingdom, which serves citizens and residents.

For his part, the General Supervisor of Support and Empowerment of the Municipalities, Eng. Abdullah bin Saeed, confirmed that this coordination meeting came based on the directives, keenness and follow-up of His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, in following up the program for improving and addressing visual distortion, as it represents a great importance in the development of cities and prosperity, and that this meeting came to present the most important experiences and success stories of all secretariats, including the Eastern Region secretariat, to benefit from these efforts and achievements in this important file and to be supported by the Ministry so that all its goals are achieved and our cities are beautiful and free from all elements of visual distortion.

Subsequently, His Excellency the Mayor of the Eastern Region reviewed the mechanism of work of the Eastern Municipality to improve the level of the urban landscape and remove visual distortions and the successful experiences achieved by the Municipality. The quality of life program was also highlighted, which is concerned with improving the lifestyle of the individual and family and building a community whose members enjoy a balanced lifestyle by creating the necessary environment to support And the development of new options to enhance the participation of the individual and society in cultural, recreational and sports activities, where the attendees were briefed on the activation of work governance through the meetings that were held, which were estimated at no less than 27 meetings, and weekly field visits to the sites of improvement projects, and workshops that amounted to 12 workshops to determine what is The elements of distortion, the plans and the municipalities’ achievements in the periodic meetings that aim to improve the urban landscape. He followed the work mechanism for treatment and the treatment stages, which were divided into six stages, starting with monitoring channels and ending with treatment with modern techniques and documentation.

His Excellency also reviewed the monthly achievement quantities with pictures of the treatments, which illustrate the efforts of the Secretariat in addressing the visual distortion from January to May for the current year 2021 AD, in addition to the outputs of the visual distortion elements that were monitored for the targeted axes in the municipalities in the first stage. His Excellency also reviewed the North Khobar development project by improving the public domain in it, through which the Municipality seeks to develop and humanize some streets, create a greener, sustainable and lively area and improve communication and mobility by introducing many innovative, smart and distinctive interventions along the main streets and sites; This gives Al-Khobar Governorate a unique character and identity that turns it into a world-class future destination, which the Municipality seeks to implement during the coming period, while regional and international standards have been set, and accordingly the layers were analyzed, a plan for digital activity was developed, and design steps, with the identification of the most concentrated areas, locations The connection, through which several access points and direct links to the roads in Al-Khobar were proposed, and electric car stations were indicated, which would help reduce carbon and other emissions and encourage the public to switch from gasoline to electric cars.

His Excellency also reviewed, during the coordination meeting, the study and preparation of site designs for aesthetic models in Arabic calligraphy in the city of Dammam, which target the main entrances and squares in the capital of Dammam, which is the “Watan Square”, which is located at the entrance to the city of Dammam for those coming from the airport road, which is the first eastern gate for those coming from abroad. At the end of the visit, they toured the Abdullah Bin Rawahah Street and Walkway Development Project in Dammam, which extends 850 meters in length, and includes a bike path, shade trees and shrubs, as well as decorative decorations, and a two-meter bike lane for each side, with a total area of ​​more than 2,000 square metres.
