Saudi Arabia achieves global awards overtaking advanced industrial countries at the 2021 ISEF Science and Engineering Fair

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba” and the Ministry of Education, has achieved for the fifteenth year in a row 5 major awards and 3 special prizes during its participation in the Regeneron ISEF 2021, which was held in the United States during the period of 3 To May 21, 2021 AD.

Student Mansour Al-Marzouqi won the second place in the field of Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design for his project “Designing a Super-Electric Capacitor that Charges itself with Light Means” and the student Rasha Al-Qahtani came third in the field of social and behavioral sciences for her project “Video Game Feature An innovator in the psychological diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder in adolescence, “student Lana Abu Jamal achieved fourth place in the field of computational and informational biology for her project” Computer prediction of the susceptibility to use of a special compound as an inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 virus with minimal side effects “, and student Abdullah Al-Shanqeeti of the center award Fourth in the field of energy: sustainable materials and design for his project “a nickel-cobaltite electrode to produce hydrogen fuel at a low price and in a renewable way”, and student Arwa Niazi, the fourth place prize in the field of materials science, for her project to manufacture a supercapacitor that responds to the sun using quantum carbon dots.

The Kingdom also achieved 3 special prizes in the International 2021 ISEF Competition, which were won by: Student Ruby Rajab from the Riyadh Education Department in the Field of Medical Engineering presented by the University of Arizona for her qualitative project “Improving a tool for communication with groups of people with hearing and sense of music impairment through an advanced tactile glove.” She won a scholarship from the American University, student Mansour Al-Marzouki, and student Lama Al-Qahtani from Saudi Arabia, with two special Mawhiba awards.

With this achievement, the Kingdom raised the balance of its prizes in the 2021 ISEF exhibition to 83, including 53 major prizes and 30 special prizes, as its participation in the exhibition began in 2007.

All members of the Saudi National Science and Engineering team received a special award for each of them.

The judging rounds for the projects participating in the ISF 2021 were conducted remotely via video technology during the period from 3 to 6 May 2021, and the exhibition activities were held during the period from 16 to 21 May 2021.

The Kingdom competed in the grand prizes for the 2021 ISEF exhibition with a team of 30 male and female students who submitted 30 scientific projects in several fields, an increase of ten projects from the previous year.

The King Abdulaziz & His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity sponsored the energy field at the Regeneron ISEF 2021 International Science and Engineering Fair, and the winning projects in the energy fields related to sustainable materials and design. Mawhiba, during its sponsorship, presented major prizes to the first-placed holders of the best projects in the energy field.

Mawhiba increased the number of special prizes presented in its name in this year 2021 in the fields of STEM, which are cash prizes and grants for participating in the Mawhiba global enrichment program, which were received by Franklin Lopez, Isabella Rodriguez from Panama, Mansour Al Marzouki and Lama Al Qahtani from Saudi Arabia. And Maria Illini Patatodi, Chariclia Muraitaki from Greece, Simon Berlicki from Poland, Linaw Jiang from China and the United States of America: Siddharth Barthelwar, Liu Waillones, Hargeysal Bergar, Charlotte McAvoy, Anch Sharma, Rohan Kulkarni, Mihir Paviskar, Andy Fong , And Suryaban Mohapatra.

It is noteworthy that the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba” has offered over eleven years special prizes at the ISEF International Science and Engineering Fair, totaling 103 awards to 121 male and female students from 20 countries.

The Regenern International Science and Engineering Fair “ISEF 2021” was held virtually in the United States of America, with the participation of more than 1,800 students from more than 70 countries. The Kingdom competed for its grand prizes with 30 scientific projects for 30 students from various educational departments, representing the participating Saudi national team.
