Washington announced the imposition of sanctions on 32 Russian entities and personalities, against the backdrop of allegations of Russian interference in the last presidential elections, as well as sanctions against 5 individuals and 3 companies in the Crimea peninsula.

The United States has banned its companies from directly purchasing Russian debt securities issued by the Central Bank, the National Wealth Fund, or the Russian Finance Ministry.

The US administration officially held the Russian foreign intelligence service responsible for the cyber attack, which targeted the "SolarWinds" company.

Earlier on Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow would deal with US sanctions if imposed on the basis of reciprocity.

The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the US sanctions by saying, "These sanctions do not respond to the interests of the two peoples."

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said, "The actions of the administration of the US President, Joe Biden, do not reflect Washington's interest in normalizing relations."
