The US State Department affirmed, on Thursday, that it is in Washington's interest to maintain strategic cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Riyadh is a key partner in many priorities, including regional security and counterterrorism.
He added, "The Kingdom faces great threats to its lands from Yemen and elsewhere in the region, and attacks on it endanger the lives of innocent civilians, and for this reason we are committed to working together to help Saudi Arabia strengthen its defenses against these threats."
He continued, "We are working in partnership with Saudi Arabia to end the war in Yemen."
The Pentagon: We take seriously our security commitments with Saudi Arabia
A spokesman for the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) confirmed, Thursday, that Washington takes seriously its commitments to defend Saudi Arabia and help the people of the Kingdom to defend themselves against attacks that are still continuing.
"We are continuing to consider the distribution of our forces around the world, and we continue to support the defense of the kingdom, including its capabilities to repel attacks," said John Kirby.
He also added, "Iran poses a threat to its neighbors, the region, and US national security," noting that Iran's missile program exists and is developing.
"Iran continues to support terrorist groups in the region," he added.
