This came in the speech of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia before the UN Security Council in its session held today via video call to discuss conflict and food security, which was delivered by His Excellency the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallami.

At the beginning of the speech, Ambassador Al-Muallami congratulated the permanent representative of the United States to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, on assuming the position and assuming the presidency of the Security Council for this month of March.

Ambassador Al-Muallami explained that many countries around the world are witnessing severe cases of a decrease in food security rates and malnutrition due to the various disasters facing the world, the most important of which is the exposure of a number of countries to drought and other natural disasters that lead to a reduction in food production in many countries. In addition, military conflicts are among the most important causes of the displacement of many people and exposing them to hunger and malnutrition.

He said: Since the beginning of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia coup, he said, the Republic of Yemen has witnessed a deterioration in the economic and living conditions, and has suffered human and material losses through military operations, indiscriminate bombing and mine planting by these militias, which made Yemenis flee to other regions and directorates to make them immune to the Houthi aggression.

He stated that despite many peace and ceasefire initiatives and agreements on Yemen, the Houthi aggression continues to violate the armistice and peace agreements and reject a ceasefire. To make the lives of Yemenis in a permanent deterioration, indicating that this caused civilians in Yemen to lack the necessary basic services, and led to an increase in the number of displaced people in the country.

Ambassador Al-Muallami stated that the displacement crisis in the Republic of Yemen is still a matter of great concern, with the Iranian-backed Houthi militia continuing to evict the population from their original areas and rob them of their homes by force, at gunpoint, and destroy their homes.

He pointed out that the latest of these practices is their aggressive attack on Marib, which hosts a large number of internally displaced persons, which calls for concerted international efforts to stop this ongoing aggression, and the pressure of international and international organizations whose aid provided to the Yemeni people has been looted and destroyed by the Houthi militia.

He added: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has implemented many projects in the food security sector in Yemen, and continues to provide assistance to the Yemeni people in the food security sector by supporting UN organizations through the Kingdom's support for the humanitarian response plans for Yemen, the last of which comes to support the plan for the year 2021 AD with an amount of 430 One million dollars, as the Kingdom's support for Yemen since the beginning of the crisis has reached more than 17 billion dollars.

He pointed out that the food security and nutrition sectors have been greatly affected by the outbreak of conflicts in Syria, indicating that the Kingdom, through the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action, had a large and effective role in providing food aid for the benefit of Syrians inside Syria and in asylum countries in Jordan and Lebanon as needed. The humanitarian and affected areas, as the number of submitted projects reached 75, with an approximate cost of $ 152 million.

He said: In Afghanistan, food insecurity is exacerbating, as a large proportion of the Afghan people suffer from food insecurity due to the conflicts occurring in Afghanistan, as the Kingdom, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, had an effective role in providing food aid for the benefit of displaced Afghans with 16 projects. Its approximate cost is 11 million dollars.

He continued: In Somalia, the increasing violence and conflict, as well as natural disasters such as drought, cast a shadow over the state of food insecurity and nutrition, as the Kingdom contributed through its projects implemented by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action in the food security sector to alleviate food insecurity and malnutrition in Somalia. With 53 projects, with an approximate cost of $ 95 million.

And he went on to say: In the Republic of South Sudan, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action, in cooperation with the World Food Program (WFP), implemented three projects in the food security sector at an approximate cost of $ 370,000, and it also provided food aid in Nigeria, the northeastern regions of it and the Sahel African countries. .

Al-Muallami stressed that the Kingdom's humanitarian and relief role is clearly evident in the field of food security in the world and in conflict areas in particular, as it is one of the first countries in the speed of response and extending a helping hand to people around the world, which made it one of the most donor countries in the world.

At the end of the speech, Ambassador Al-Muallami stressed that there will be no development without real peace and commitment to international laws and norms, and resolving disputes by peaceful diplomatic means to avoid wars and conflicts, of which poverty, hunger and homelessness are the most prominent results.
