Russia: Thwarted terrorist attack at an energy facility
The Russian Federal Security Service announced today, Thursday, the arrest of a person who was planning to launch a terrorist attack in an energy facility in the Kaliningrad Province, west of the country.
The Federal Security Service stated in a statement that the arrested, who holds Russian citizenship, was planning to carry out the attack "out of hatred of the authorities," noting that he was also working to "recruit local residents to participate in terrorist activities."
The authority confirmed that the security personnel found in the house of the accused a homemade bomb, instructions on how to manufacture it and components for the production of explosives, in addition to "materials offensive to the Russian executive and legislative authorities."
