Unveiling the legendary dragon emblem for the 2022 World Winter Olympics
Kazan, Russia - beth: The local organizing committee of the World Winter Olympics Kazan 2022 unveiled the global emblem of the World Games at a ceremony in the Kazan Kremlin, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
The logo carries rich symbolism and was developed in part by a competition for designers across Russia. The visual identity of the logo is based on the concept of the winner Artemy Libidi: Zilant - the mythical dragon that symbolizes the city of Kazan - embracing a stylized lavender flower native to the Tatarstan region that represents the embodiment of the Volga River. Portraying Zilant embracing the slogan is a symbol of friendship, hospitality and joy.
In the center of the emblem, there are five figures flying in a circle to represent the global Special Olympics movement. Around the flying shapes is the Volga River, which is the largest river in Europe, and Kazan lies on its banks. Zilant's Legendary Dragon encircles the emblem while protecting and welcoming all game participants and guests.
