The President of the Arab Parliament meets the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Beth: Within the framework of his visit to Geneva to discuss prospects for cooperation between the Arab Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the President of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi, met Mr. Martin Chungung, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where the meeting dealt with a constructive and fruitful discussion to launch an effective institutional partnership between the Arab Parliament And the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The talks between the two sides dealt with the issue of women, as Al-Osoumi emphasized that the Arab Parliament places the issue of empowering women and optimal employment of their capabilities and capabilities at the forefront of its priorities. For his part, Mr. Martin praised this approach, stressing that building the capacities of Arab women and taking care of their issues represents the correct entry point in changing the Western perspective of Arab culture.

The meeting dealt with an important number of the main issues that constitute the general framework for the partnership between the two sides, foremost of which is combating terrorism and extremist ideology, as the President of the Arab Parliament explained that preventing terrorism and combating extremist ideology is the cornerstone of confronting this hateful phenomenon, stressing the Arab Parliament’s keenness to develop an action plan To cooperate with the Inter-Parliamentary Union in this regard, especially after the Arab Parliament created a joint committee to combat terrorism.

Martin appreciated the keenness of the President of the Arab Parliament, at the beginning of his visit to Geneva, to meet with the heads of the working groups, experts and advisors of the Inter-Parliamentary Union with the aim of obtaining a comprehensive vision on the areas of work and priorities of the Union, and to discuss how to use it in strengthening the relationship with the Arab Parliament within the framework of its areas of interest.

Mr. Martin Chungng expressed his warm welcome to cooperate with the Arab Parliament in this field and to provide the full experience of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in this field, as well as to strengthen coordination with the Arab Parliament through the Inter-Parliamentary Union's High Level Advisory Group on Counter-Terrorism, which Mr. Martin stressed the importance of That there be an active and influential presence of the Arab Parliament in this group.

Martin Chungung agreed with the President of the Arab Parliament that there is a need for structural and institutional adjustments in the IPU in a manner that allows for the effective participation and greater involvement of the Arab Parliament, and of regional groupings in general, in the activities and activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

At the end of the talks, His Excellency Mr. Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi and His Excellency Mr. Martin Chungnj agreed to crystallize the various axes discussed for the partnership within the framework of a comprehensive agreement between the two organizations, which includes strengthening cooperation and coordination at the parliamentary and political level, as well as partnership in the field of structural and institutional development. Mr. Martin expressed the willingness of the IPU to organize joint programs with the Arab Parliament to build the capacities of Arab parliamentarians as well as the staff of the General Secretariat, as well as developing existing work regulations and rules, which was welcomed by the President of the Arab Parliament.
