Al Sharqiya: Completes the implementation of 14 pedestrian bridges

The Eastern Province Municipality revealed that 4 pedestrian bridges are currently being implemented in the metropolis of Dammam, which comes within its plan to implement pedestrian bridges in the region, with the aim of serving transients, reducing the number of accidents and improving safety.


The spokesman for the Eastern Region Municipality, Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Sufyan, explained that the Municipality has completed during the last period the implementation of 14 pedestrian bridges in the metropolis of Dammam, indicating that the roads in which pedestrian bridges are implemented in the metropolis of Dammam are the sites with high pedestrian accident rates (according to statistical reports and reports Black points issued by the Traffic Department), land use sites that generate large pedestrian flows, such as: (markets, large commercial complexes, multi-unit housing units, hospitals, and sports complexes), and roads in which the number of lane units is large and witness a high volume of traffic.

He said that the Municipality is currently implementing four pedestrian bridges in the metropolis of Dammam in a number of roads, the most prominent of which are: King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Road in Dammam, Al Khaleej Road in front of Extra, and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Road in Khobar, opposite the Venice Commercial Complex, in addition to King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Road in the news .

Al-Sufyan said that there are standards required in the roads to place the pedestrian bridge, most notably: the presence of a traffic problem for pedestrians in a specific location (a current or expected future problem) and that the study begins to determine all the different dimensions of it in terms of studying the main and secondary traffic movements affecting the site Traffic intensity - times and peak days In addition to studying the topography of the site, as well as studying the functional activities of the region (schools - government institutions - residential buildings - commercial activities - industrial activities), in addition to the population study of the area surrounding the site such as (population density - economic and social level and means of transportation used for the population), and a study Economic and social challenges with the problem, such as frequent traffic accidents, bottlenecks and traffic congestion, taking into account if the roads are fast, as pedestrian crossings cannot be established on these roads.
