The United Nations assures the President of the Arab Parliament to maintain the Safir reservoir as soon as possible

Cairo - Bethpress: Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi, President of the Arab Parliament, received a letter from Mr. Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs and Relief in Cases of Emergency, in response to the urgent letter that the President of the Arab Parliament addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to demand immediate measures to oblige the Houthi militia The coup by enabling the United Nations team to enter the Safer oil tank and conduct the required maintenance.

 

In his speech, Mr.Mark Lowcock indicated that he stressed to the UN Security Council the urgent need to address the grave environmental and humanitarian risks posed by the Safer oil reservoir, adding that the United Nations had recently received a letter from the Houthi coup militia with the formal approval of the UN proposal to send an expert mission to assess the status of the reservoir.

 

In his speech, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations added that the UN-led expert mission aims to assess the condition of the ship and conduct initial maintenance, in addition to formulating recommendations on additional measures required to neutralize the risks of the oil spill, adding that within the coming weeks, the procedures will be completed. And logistical advance preparations.
