The comprehensive encyclopedia of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia contributes to enhancing the cultural and informational vision of the history of the Kingdom and its regions and conveying the civilized image of the kingdom to various readers in the world, as it included through its twenty volumes comprehensive information about the history of the kingdom, its urban areas, cities and villages, and provided multiple topics related to the economic, social, archaeological, tourist and cultural structures of various regions of the kingdom, to fill a large knowledge gap, given the lack of comprehensive information on some areas, and the need for researchers and concerned to read the cultural transformations and foresee the ancient Saudi history.
The Encyclopedia, which was issued by the King Abdulaziz Public Library in 1428 ah and was worked on by more than (250) academics and researchers, provided a comprehensive scientific picture of Saudi life throughout the ages, and is one of the largest and deepest encyclopedias that deals with the various regions of the kingdom of 13 different fields, and constitutes the first research reference for those who want to study or learn about the regions of the kingdom in an encyclopedic form.the presence of the Encyclopedia, which will be translated into English soon in cooperation between the Ministry of culture and the library, has covered broad research, scientific, historical and economic aspects.
The Encyclopedia consists of (20) volumes, which include information about the kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its regions, cities, and villages, and the encyclopedia was issued in a hard copy volume, and also issued in an electronic version on CDs.
The first volume included a general entry about the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its importance and status, state systems, geographical characteristics, monuments and historical sites, historical development, social patterns, Customs and traditions, and the volume is located in (1104 ) pages, while the following volumes dealt with the regions of the kingdom, as follows: Makkah region in two volumes, as well as Medina, Riyadh and the eastern region, each region in two volumes, the encyclopedia also dealt with Asir, Jazan, Qassim, Tabuk, hail, Najran, Al-Baha, Al-Jawf and borders, in one for each region, then the 19th and 20th volumes included encyclopedia indexes.
The Encyclopedia is located in more than (20) thousand pages, and includes more than (10,000) ten thousand images, as illustrated scientific material in support of the scientific and methodological dimensions of the encyclopedia, where between (500) and(1000) images have been allocated in each of the 13 regions of the Kingdom, and what the doors need has been accurately determined, then sorted and prepared lists of appropriate images for each door.
In parallel with the collections of photographs, large collections of various geographical, topographic, thematic, and illustrative maps were used for the kingdom in general, and for each individual region, and the Encyclopedia committee has relied on the maps received from: King Abdulaziz circuit, the Geological Survey, and the General Directorate of the military survey.
The encyclopedia also included a set of various illustrative forms, the function of which is to clarify the content and represent it graphically, and these forms were used to illustrate statistics of all kinds, printing, population, Economic, Service and others, as well as the Encyclopedia included a large number of detailed tables.
It is noteworthy that the King Abdulaziz Public Library has issued a concise version of the encyclopedia for young people and boys, in (9) volumes about various regions of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it also intends to update the Encyclopedia soon, adding the latest national development achievements in various regions in accordance with Vision 2030 and the kingdom is witnessing a comprehensive cultural renaissance in all fields.
