US President Donald Trump announced, on Thursday, through his Twitter account, that Morocco and Israel have agreed to normalize relations between them, with American mediation.

A US official said that Morocco and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic relations as part of the agreement.

Trump said he signed a declaration recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.

Morocco became the fourth Arab country to open a new diplomatic chapter towards Israel since last August, after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan, and Egypt and Jordan accepted them.

As part of this agreement, Trump agreed to recognize Morocco’s legitimacy over Western Sahara.

A senior US administration official said that the agreement was concluded during a telephone interview between the US President and King Mohammed VI.

King Mohammed VI assured Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in a phone call, of his country’s commitment to the two-state solution.

The royal court said in a statement that King Mohammed reminded during the call of his country’s “stable and balanced positions” regarding the Palestinian issue, expressing Rabat’s support for “a solution based on two states living side by side in security and peace.”

The Moroccan monarch stressed that negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties are still the only way to reach a final, lasting and comprehensive solution to the conflict.
