The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli, inaugurated today, Thursday, the Environment Fund, the National Center of Meteorology, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, the National Center for Monitoring Environmental Compliance, in addition to the National Center for Wildlife Development and the National Center To manage waste, in the presence of a number of leaders of the Ministry and the Leader of the Environmental Security Force.
The ministry explained that the goal of establishing an environment fund is; Contributing to the financial sustainability of the environment sector, and providing the necessary capabilities for its advancement, by contributing to supporting the operational budgets of environmental centers, supporting environmental programs, studies and initiatives, stimulating environmentally friendly technologies, and improving environmental performance and environmental rehabilitation programs.
Through the establishment of the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification, it aims to develop and manage national parks, develop and rehabilitate vegetation cover in forests and pastures, protect and multiply local and threatened plant species, combat desertification, in addition to conducting studies and supporting research related to vegetation.
While the National Center for Monitoring Environmental Compliance is concerned with monitoring the environmental compliance of all establishments that have an impact on the environment in all development sectors, supervising programs for monitoring sources of environmental pollution and monitoring environmental media, in addition to approving environmental impact studies, issuing environmental licenses for all development projects, and environmental inspection. On installations.
The Ministry stated that the tasks of the National Center for Wildlife Development are to supervise programs related to the protection and development of wildlife, programs related to the protection of biological diversity, as well as planning, proposing and managing protected areas, and managing centers for the breeding and resettlement of endangered animals.
While the activities of the National Center of Meteorology are linked to all services related to meteorology activities, such as monitoring weather and climate conditions, preparing meteorological forecasts, providing airports, ports and other entities with data and weather forecasts, and operating weather monitoring stations in all regions of the Kingdom.
The ministry indicated that the goal of the National Center for Waste Management is to effectively organize the waste management sector to improve the quality of services, enhance the level of capabilities, competencies and knowledge of the workforce in the sector, and enhance the economic sustainability of the sector by stimulating investment and maximizing the participation of the private sector, in addition to limiting waste disposal in Landfills by stimulating the use of best practices in resource recovery techniques, enhancing public awareness with the aim of reducing waste production and encouraging reuse and recycling, as well as encouraging research and innovation in the fields of reuse and recycling, resource recovery techniques, and artificial intelligence related to waste management.
It is noteworthy that the National Environmental Centers and the Environment Fund represent the operational model for the National Environment Strategy, which was approved by Cabinet Resolution No. 454 dated 8/22/1439 AH, which is considered the main road map for achieving the Kingdom's goals in relation to environmental protection, as the strategy included more than 6 strategic pillars and 64 initiatives In various environmental fields.
