240 lawmakers in 19 European countries are urging their governments to protect Europe from Iranian terrorism
Beth - The International Committee of Parliamentarians for a Democratic Iran and the British Committee for Iranian Freedom BCFIF issued a statement urging the United Kingdom and European Union member states to reconsider their policy towards Iran and do more to protect Europe from Iranian government terrorism after an Iranian diplomat was tried in Belgium for terrorism charges last week .
The first session of the court was held on Friday 27 November 2020, during which the public prosecutor presented his case against the four defendants, including a diplomat from the Iranian regime.
They were charged with planning to bomb the Free Iran Gathering on June 30, 2018, in Villepinte, in the suburb of Paris. Several British parliamentarians also attended the international event.
The statement supports 240 lawmakers from 19 European countries.
And stressed the initiative of parliamentarians who represent a broad spectrum of political trends: "Regardless of the judicial process that is taking place independently in Belgium, we believe that the time has come to reconsider dealing with the terrorism of the Iranian government."
European lawmakers said in their statement: "Given the Iranian regime's use of diplomatic cover to carry out terrorist acts, necessary practical warnings must be directed to Tehran, such as closing its embassies and expelling its ambassadors and diplomats."
They added that “according to the European Union’s declaration of April 29, 1997, Tehran’s intelligence agents, who use the cover of diplomats, journalists, businessmen, etc., such as the regime’s religious and cultural institutions in Europe, must be expelled. Terrorist centers and centers of extremism must be closed.
European lawmakers called on the United Kingdom, the European Union and its member states to make continuous relations with Iran conditional on the necessary guarantees from the Iranian regime to put an end to its terrorist acts on European soil.
Lawmakers also called on European governments to change their failed policy toward Iran, and to implement a firm, coordinated policy that prioritizes pressuring the regime and holding the regime’s leaders accountable.
