Saudi Arabia is the second G20 in the ICT Development Index
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia achieved the second place on the G20 countries in the telecommunications and Technology Development Index (IDI) 2023, registering the kingdom's progress of 10 places on the group of twenty countries in the index, which monitors the economies of 169 countries, to measure its progress in telecommunications and technology services through a number of sub-indicators divided on the two axes of comprehensive and effective communication, in order to measure the achievement of infrastructure strength standards and provide safe and effective communication for all.
The evaluation of the index highlights the strength of the kingdom's telecommunications and technology infrastructure and the availability of its services and their direct impact on the growth and development of the national digital economy, as well as its implications for attracting investment in the Kingdom and supporting the increase in the size of the telecommunications and technology market in the kingdom. the index also shows the great attention paid by the kingdom to telecommunications and technology infrastructure and its services to achieve positive effects on economic growth and generating opportunities. the telecommunications market in the kingdom is the largest and fastest growing in the Middle East and North Africa, and enjoys an advanced and renewable digital infrastructure, where the internet penetration rate is rising by 99%, and the "Saudi Vision 2030" also included direct programs to achieve The kingdom is the international leader in digital progress, investing more than 93 billion riyals in total capital investments in digital infrastructure over the past six years, which enabled it to achieve leadership and progress in global indicators and continue to achieve achievements at the international level.
The issuance of the ICT Development Index(IDI) is due to the International Telecommunication Union's (itu) approach to measuring the level of development of the ICT sectors since 2009, to provide comprehensive and transparent data and methodology jointly built by Member States and teams of experts in the field.
