Chairman of the aviation security committee of the International Civil Aviation Organization "ICAO"

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia won the chairmanship of the aviation security committee in the International Civil Aviation Organization "ICAO" for the year 2023-2024, represented by Dr. Badr bin Saleh al - Sakri, permanent representative of the Kingdom and its representative in the Organization "ICAO", during the announcement of the result at the sixth session of the Council of the organization in its session No. (229), held in Montreal, Canada.

 

The kingdom continues to provide support to civil aviation in the world through the launch of several civil aviation programs and initiatives, in addition to sending Saudi experts to work in specialized organizations, as well as hosting the permanent headquarters of the ICAO CASP-MID Cooperative Program for civil aviation security in the Middle East. The permanent headquarters of the regional integrity monitoring organization for the Middle East and North Africa MENA RSOO of ICAO.

The most important tasks of the aviation security committee of the ICAO Council are to submit its recommendations to the council on policies, strategic directions, priorities and planning of activities related to aviation security, in addition to advising the council on the adoption of international security standards and recommendations, assessing new and emerging threats to civil aviation around the world, and taking the necessary measures to address them in order to protect civil aviation from acts of illegal interference.

It is worth mentioning that the kingdom has been a member of the organization since 1962, and it established its permanent delegation in 1980, and has been a member of the Council of the organization since 1986 to date. The organization consists of 193 countries and is an international organization based in Montreal, Canada, which is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations and aims to strengthen cooperation and coordination between countries in the field of Civil Aviation and the development of standards, frameworks and policies regulating this sector.
