The G20 at a glance

Riyadh - Broadcast: The G20 follows a strong tradition of working with a wide range of organizations to gather different perspectives on socio-economic challenges at the G20 discussion table, and the communication groups are independent groups led by civil society organizations and the private sector of the presidency, and work with organizations The other G20 countries are developing policies recommended by them and which are formally submitted by the G20 Presidency to the G20 leaders for consideration.

The Presidency has worked with networking groups throughout this year to include the views of civil society and the private sector in the G20 issues, and the contributions of the contact groups have always been a basis for achieving the best policy-making procedures. The groups share their unique expertise and specialties to ensure that the policies shape a better world for all.

Communication groups met regularly during 2020 to discuss and develop recommendations that reflect the views of civil society, business communities, and academia on issues related to the agenda of the G20 presidency, and despite the unprecedented circumstances caused by the emerging coronavirus pandemic, the eight contact groups have continued their efforts. Its exceptional commitment to deliver the results of its business.

The Business Connect Group (B20), representing the international business community, raised its recommendations that focused on transformation to achieve inclusive growth.

The Youth Communication Group (Y20), which represents young global leaders from more than 23 countries, called on the G20 countries to take action in three comprehensive areas: future readiness, youth empowerment, and global citizenship.

The Workers’ Communication Group (L20), which brings together trade union representatives from G20 countries, presented its recommendations in its statement on robust recovery, social protection systems, and labor market policies.

The group representing the academic community - the Thought Group (T20) - has also issued recommendations that provide evidence-based solutions that enhance international multilateral cooperation, the digital economy, sustainable energy, mitigate the impact of the emerging coronavirus pandemic on workers, and much more.

The Civil Society Communication Group (C20) also raised its recommendations on responding and recovering from the emerging corona virus pandemic, economic and social justice, and improving the human condition and the planet.

The Women’s Communication Group (W20) brought together more than one theme on gender equality as an engine for sustainable and inclusive growth. The recommendations were also directed towards promoting women’s economic development, financial and digital inclusion, employment, and entrepreneurship.

The Science Communication Group (S20), which represents the scientific community, presented its proposals that focused on the future of health systems, the circular economy, and the digital revolution.

The Urban Community Communication Group (U20), represented by mayors and highlighting the perspectives of the urban community, focused on topics such as: climate action, social unification and integration, and sustainable economic growth to reach prosperous societies.
