NEOM breaks into the green hydrogen sector with a company that is the first in the Kingdom and the largest in the world
The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in the Kingdom issued the first license in Oxagon to the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company, which is a joint venture between NEOM, ACWA Power and Air Products.
NEOM Green Hydrogen is the world's largest large-scale green hydrogen producer headquartered in Oxagon, the home of NEOM's advanced and clean industries, with its fully automated and integrated supply and logistics network.
It is expected that the NEOM green hydrogen plant will start producing green hydrogen from 100% renewable energy sources in 2026, with a production of up to 1.2 million tons of green ammonia annually, equivalent to 600 tons of green hydrogen per day, and green ammonia will be exported to the markets. Global, which supports the decarbonization of the heavy transport sector aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
It is estimated that the impact of the plant will remove up to 5 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, and with the plant in Oxagon commissioned in 2026 AD; 100% of the green hydrogen it produces will be available for global export, in the form of green ammonia through an exclusive long-term purchase agreement with Air Products.
The multi-billion dollar plant, by utilizing the kingdom's unique wind and solar energy properties, will run on about 4 gigawatts of wind and solar power, and will produce green hydrogen using 2.2 electrolysis technology.
