The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen confirmed, on Friday, "the completion of the process of releasing and transferring 163 Houthi prisoners as part of the Saudi humanitarian initiative."
The coalition valued the efforts and role of the International Committee of the Red Cross to coordinate the return of the prisoners.
He stressed that "the Saudi initiative came from a humanitarian premise to end the prisoners' file and support peace efforts."
The official spokesman for the coalition forces, "Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen," Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, had stated on 27 Ramadan 1443 AH corresponding to 28 April 2022 AD that the Joint Forces Command of the coalition will release (163) one hundred and sixty-three prisoners of the Houthis who participated in the operations The fighting against the Kingdom’s lands, as a humanitarian initiative as an extension of the previous humanitarian initiatives, and in support of all efforts and endeavors to end the Yemeni crisis and establish peace and the efforts of the United Nations to establish the current truce and create an atmosphere for dialogue between the Yemeni parties, as well as to facilitate the termination of the file of prisoners, detainees and martyrs in line with Islamic values, humanitarian principles and Arab traditions The original text and the provisions of international humanitarian law represented in the texts and provisions of the Third Geneva Convention, whose implementation has been suspended since the year 2018 AD (Stockholm Agreement).
Brigadier Al-Maliki added that the leadership of the joint forces of the coalition has begun to finalize the procedures for releasing the 163 prisoners, in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross, to be transferred to the capital of the Republic of Yemen (Sana'a).
Brigadier General Al-Maliki concluded his statement by emphasizing that the file of ending the exchange of prisoners and martyrs is of interest to the political and military leadership, which always emphasizes dealing with this file from purely humanitarian grounds, away from calculations or political and military gains.
