The Saudi embassy in the United States warns of fraud
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States of America has warned of repeated fraudulent operations against Saudi citizens through fake calls and emails, by unknown persons impersonating embassy employees.
In a statement, the embassy said: "In addition to what was previously published by the embassy, and in view of the frequent fraud cases that Saudi citizens were subjected to through fake calls and emails by unknown persons impersonating embassy employees using electronic programs that show that the caller's number is a number The Kingdom’s embassy in Washington, the number of the cultural attaché in Washington, or the sender’s email address belongs to the embassy’s list of addresses, and they request the transfer of sums of money, and if the citizens refuse, these people threaten to transfer them to the security authorities in the Kingdom or international prosecution.”
The statement added, "The embassy would like to assure citizens that these calls and emails are not issued by the embassy or the cultural attaché, despite the appearance of their phone numbers and addresses, which confirms that these people use phone applications and electronic programs for the purpose of defrauding and seizing funds in illegal ways. legitimate, by deluding citizens that there are problems against them because of study certificates or courses they obtained from a distance university, or attesting university certificates or requesting the cancellation of a scholarship, and that they must pay sums of money to accounts outside the Kingdom to document or certify their certificates, or to modify their legal status, or Hiring a lawyer through them or for any other fictitious reason they may allege in the future.
The embassy confirmed that it does not ask citizens to transfer sums of money to it or to any other party in any case, and that its role is to provide services to citizens in accordance with the specific terms of reference in the event of a request for service from Saudi citizens through the departments and consulates affiliated with the embassy.
The embassy called on citizens in the Kingdom and the United States of America to take caution and not respond to and ignore such suspicious communications and not transfer any amount of money to them.
The embassy is also working with the responsible authorities to take all necessary measures to follow up the investigation of these attempts and protect the rights of citizens.
