Organizing an annual conference on human rights in the Arab countries
Beth: The Arab Observatory for Human Rights, headed by Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights, announced the organization of an expanded annual conference on human rights in Arab countries, pointing out that a working group was formed to prepare for the conference, and it was agreed that The conference will be launched during the first quarter of 2023 AD.
This came during the fifth meeting of the Arab Human Rights Monitor today, Wednesday, which was held in Cairo under the chairmanship of Al-Asumi, and whose meetings will continue on Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31, 2022 AD. And the formation of its four qualitative committees, in addition to discussing building institutional relations with national human rights institutions in Arab countries.
During the meeting, the Observatory’s Board of Trustees agreed to launch the Arab Human Rights Index, which in turn sets a set of correct scientific indicators to measure developments in the human rights situation in the Arab world in order to be an effective tool in the process of advancing the human rights system and monitoring positive developments in the Arab countries, which contributes to supporting the file of Human rights in the Arab world, which refutes the allegations made by some suspicious foreign organizations, which use the human rights file as a pretext for attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Arab countries.
The Arab Observatory for Human Rights renewed its condemnation and outright denunciation of the Houthi terrorist attack on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the attacks on its facilities, infrastructure and energy sources, and its threat to international peace and security, considering it a cowardly terrorist attack that constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law, calling on the international community to take firm steps against these militias that confirm their criminal acts. It is a terrorist organization that poses a serious threat to the security and stability of the region.
The head of the observatory’s board of trustees praised the Arab coalition’s decision to stop military operations in the Republic of Yemen, which aims to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to end the Yemeni crisis, to make the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations successful and to create a positive environment for peacemaking.
The meeting dealt with the strategic plan for the work of the observatory and the basis for action at the Arab and international levels to consolidate the positive developments in the human rights file witnessed by the Arab countries, work to promote a culture of human rights, and stress the need for the international community to adhere to unified and not double standards in human rights issues. The Russian-Ukrainian events were noted. The Board of Trustees stressed the need to respect international humanitarian law, take into account the humanitarian aspects and address any human rights violations in either country, without any discrimination, calling on the international community to uphold the human and human interest and preserve human rights away from political inclinations and interests.
The Observatory also discussed the moves made by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees during the last period, which resulted in opening up horizons for institutional and legal cooperation with the Arab Network for Human Rights and the National Councils for Human Rights in the Arab countries, and the agreement began to sign a memorandum of understanding with: The National Institution for Rights Human Rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the National Council for Public Freedoms and Human Rights in the State of Libya in light of its efforts to strengthen effective partnerships with national institutions.
